2015 HalfKorean.com Annual Meet in Los Angeles (7/18/2015)

Los Angeles, CAHalfKorean.com held its annual meet on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Hwa Sun Ji (화선지) Tea & Coffee in Los Angeles, California. This was the seventh consecutive and eighth overall meetup held in Los Angeles. The turnout included attendees from the Los Angeles area, all over California, Arizona, North Carolina and even from Japan and Germany. Once again, a wide age range was in attendance from the mixed Korean community which allowed for multiple generations to be represented.

The purpose of the meeting was to be able to allow people to meet face to face and create friendships and networking opportunities. Our meets are for anyone whom is mixed Korean regardless the percentage, mix, age, and/or where one is born and raised. We want to bring together EVERYONE to celebrate our Korean culture and our diverse mixed backgrounds. Non-mixed Koreans are welcome to attend as well as long as they have a sincere interest in people of mixed Korean descent (such as significant others, friends, etc.).

HalfKorean.com was honored to have two guest speakers for the meet. The guest speakers were distinguished writer and author Victoria Namkung (“The Things We Tell Ourselves“) and author Joel Peterson (“Dreams of My Mothers“). The guest speakers shared their mixed Korean experience along with discussing their respective novels.

The meet concluded with dinner at Dream Korean BBQ filled with Korean food and soju. The after-party was held at Escala and later at Gaam Karaoke.

Thank you to all that attended and helped support this fun and successful event. Special thank you to the following: my wife Joy Sanders, co-organizers Frankie and Tia Legoski, guest speakers Victoria Namkung and Joel Peterson, and Hwa Sun Ji, Dream BBQ and Escala for providing the locations for our event.
