This is some info submitted by James O'Sullivan on Hines Ward, 3rd Round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 98 draft out of Georgia.
I am working on finding more info on Hines Ward, and hopefully can contact him soon. There is an article in Sports Illustrated from October 13, 1997 on him and his mother which I will try to add here soon. Also, you can check his season stats from nfl.com here

Name: Hines Ward
University: Georgia (I guess this would be Georgia University but the name was never fully written in any of the articles I found).
Position Drafted for: Wide Receiver
Date Drafted: This season (1998)
Nickname at Georgia: "Hines 57", because such a versatile football player (the steak sauce can be used in many ways)

Hines was born on March 8, 1976 in Seoul, Korea. His father is an African-American and was stationed in Korea, and his mother is Korean. Hines* father brought his family to the States after his tour of duty in the U.S. Army ended. Hines* mother and father divorced soon after they arrived in America and the court granted Hines Sr. custody of his son.

When Hines was seven, the court granted custody to his mother. Ward*s mother worked several jobs at a time to support her son, routinely putting in 12-hour days six times a week. This proved to provide Hines with the drive to succeed in football, and the work ethic to dedicate the time needed to make good grades.

David, that's about all I have now. I think adding more parts of Hines' personal life might be interesting. Hines Ward (I remember from the KBS program) is really happy that he can support his mom after she worked so hard to raise him. He bought her a house and plans to send her to Korea as often as she wants.

It would be great if Hines could add an article himself. Like I said his personal story is really interesting (for example, he had the opportunity to make the all-time record in career receptions at Georgia but he was unselfish in the last game and just concentrated on winning, ending up with the second-best all-time record).
