Decon Records released the cover artwork and track listing for Rakaa Iriscience’s (Rakaa Taylor) upcoming Crown of Thorns. As Rakaa noted in our interview back in February, one of the highlights is “Ambassador Slang” which will be huge posse cut featuring many Asian/Pacific Islander artists including Korean/Korean-American artists Tasha (Yoon Mi Rae), Tiger JK, Dumbfounded, and Tablo & Mithra Jin (of Epik High). The whole album track list is crazy as he also has the legendary KRS-One, among others, along with Evidence & DJ Babu from Dilated Peoples (his group). It looks as though the release date has been moved back to July 20th (it was tentatively scheduled for May). If you are a hip hop fan you can’t help but be excited to check out this album! Here is the post content (from Decon Records): First look at album art work for Rakaa’s long awaited debut solo album, Crown of Thorns available everywhere on 7/20. Ben Henderson retains WEC Lightweight Championship at WEC 48
Ben “Smooth” Henderson retained his WEC Lightweight Championship with a victory over Donald Cerrone on Saturday 4/24/2010 at WEC 48 in Sacramento, California. He left no doubt who the champion is by finishing Cerrone off quickly via submission (Guillotine Choke) at 1:57 of round 1. This also got Ben the “Submission of the Night” bonus award. Not sure who his next opponent will be but, with this victory, he has further cemented himself as one of the top lightweight professional MMA fighters in the world. To sort of summarize my personal experience of attending this event, this being the first time I had attended a professional MMA event, I have to say it was pretty awesome. It didn’t hurt that our fellow mixed Korean took care of business! Also, “The Korean Zombie” aka Chan Sung Jung’s fight against Leonard Garcia on the preliminary fight card was arguably the most entertaining and memorable fight from WEC 48. That fight won “Fight of the Night” honors. Unfortunately, the controversial split decision went to Garcia. From my view it sure looked like the “Zombie” had the victory. Please check out the HalfKorean.com interview with Ben “Smooth” Henderson from earlier this year. You can also check out his official website, SmoothBen.com, to keep up on his training and future fight schedule. |

Ben Henderson – Henderson vs. Cerrone Rematch at WEC 48
Ben “Smooth” Henderson fights tonight against Donald Cerrone for the WEC Lightweight Championship at WEC 48 in Sacramento, California. This fight is a highly anticipated rematch of last year’s fight at WEC 43 which was voted “Fight of the Year” by Sherdog.com that Ben won by decision. This will be Ben’s first title defense as the undisputed Lightweight champion. This also marks WEC’s first event to be shown on PPV. For those that don’t know, WEC (World Extreme Cagefighting) is a MMA promotion that is owned by the same company that owns UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). WEC concentrates on the lower weight classes (Bantamweight, Featherweight & Lightweight) while UFC concentrates on all weight classes from Lightweight and above. On a personal note, I’ll be attending the fight since Sacramento is less than 2 hours away from the San Francisco Bay Area (where I reside). I will be sitting in the “nosebleeds” (upper level), but that was pretty much all that was left since I waited until this past week to buy my tickets. Here’s hoping to Ben successfully defends his title tonight! Also, if you haven’t already done so, please check out the HalfKorean.com interview with Ben “Smooth” Henderson from earlier this year. |
