UFC Fight Night Boston: Henderson vs Cerrone

UFC Fight Night Boston: Henderson vs. Cerrone (aka UFC Fight Night 59) takes place this Sunday, January 18, 2015 at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts and will feature former UFC Lightweight Champion Benson “Smooth” Henderson in the co-main event against Donald Cerrone.

Henderson (21-4) was originally scheduled to face former Bellator Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez but Alvarez was replaced by Cerrone (26-6) just earlier this month.

This will be Henderson and Cerrone’s third fight with the first two happening when both were fighting for WEC. Henderson won both of the first two fights, once in 2010 by submission at WEC 48 and the other in 2009 by unanimous decision at WEC 43. At WEC 43 was where Henderson won the interim WEC Lightweight title and that fight was considered by many as one of the best of 2009.

Henderson last fought in August at UFC Fight Night: Henderson vs. Dos Anjos where he was knocked out by Rafael dos Anjos in the first round. It was a bit controversial whether the fight was stopped too soon and also marked the first time Henderson had ever been KO’d in his professional MMA career.

On a side note, this may be his last Lightweight fight as Henderson has mentioned the possibility of moving up to Welterweight (170 lbs) in the near future.

Go Smooth!
